Placing a dumpster in a public street requires a permit issued by the Street Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Bureau of Street Services. Permits can be obtained online (bsspermits.lacity.org) or by phone. Permits cost $66.30 and are good for 60 days. Anyone who suspects a dumpster has been placed on public property illegally is encouraged to call the Permit Counter. 213-847-6264
